Exchange 2010 DAG maintenance

    Question

  • Hello,

In earlier setup we had 4 exchange servers. We have now added 2 more exchange servers so each database has 1 active copy and 2 passive copy.

Please let me know if we have to run override minimum 2 copies switch when run start dag maintenance script

  • Since you have three copies, unless you plan on taking more than half your servers offline at the same time, or unless you are going to have more than two copies of any database offline at the same time, you won't.  We had four copies of each database, and we made sure we patched our servers sequentially (for both Windows patching and Exchange patching).  We never had to worry about the minimum copy override.

  • Hello,

We will patch and reboot only one server at a time. After this server is rebooted and is back online again , we will proceed with next server.

  • Then you're good - no override is needed.
