Problem with SCCM 2016 install (crash during copying files operation) RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi everyone,

Having a problem with SCCM 2016, I've posted a question on the french technet but didn't obtained an answer.
So I'm taking my chances here.

So, I'm trying to install a testing configuration with SCCM to learn how to work on it.
    My config:
    -Physical client computer : W10 1511 x64 French
-Hyper-V server : Windows Server 2016 (Update february 2018) english
    -SQL Server 2016 Enterprise SP1 x64
    -SCCM Endpoint Protection Version 1606

My server is sheltering all of the necessary roles and softwares (Active Directory, SQL Server, SCCM, ...)
All is ok, I have just to install SCCM.
When I'm launching the installer, all of the requirements are ok.
So the install starts, and then it always crash during the copying files operation:

In the ConfigMgrSetup.log , always the same errors : "Source file is not found..." and "ERROR: Failed to copy...".
Nothing very useful, as the original files exists and all seems ok.

    What I've done and checked:
    -Windows Defender disabled
-No problems with write access on files or folders (I'm doing this with an administrator account of the domain who has all of the necessary rights)

I've tested the install with 2 different ways : by launching directly from the ISO, and then by launching the installer from the decompressed ISO >>> it's all the same.

The ISO was downloaded from official Microsoft source:
    https://www.microsoft.com/fr-fr/evalcenter/evaluate-system-center-2016

I have no idea now of what is causing the copying operation to fail all the time.

After that I have succeeded with installing a 2012 version of SCCM, but I'd really like to install this 2016 version.

    Any idea?

    Thanks!

First note that there is no such thing as SCCM 2016. The latest product is simply called Configuration Manager (ConfigMgr or SCCM) and sometimes referred to as ConfigMgr Current Branch (CB); the latest version of ConfigMgr CB is 1902.

The media that you've downloaded is probably corrupt.

Also, you should download the latest version listed as "System Center Configuration Manager and Endpoint Protection (current branch – version 1902)" at https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/evalcenter/evaluate-system-center-configuration-manager-and-endpoint-protection

  • Ok, thanks!
It's not easy for a beginner to know what version to take, there are so many... and most of the time, I don't know the differences between each one.

Ok, I will try this one and tell you if it's ok or not.

  • True, but that's where the official documentation comes in which is where beginners should always start: https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/sccm/

  • Hi, I am having issue installing SCCM 1902. I have completed all prerequisites and no warnings or error after pre-check. But during the SCCM installation when it is at "Copying files...." it crashes and automatically reboot the server. I have tried to uninstall and install several times and no luck. My SQL version is 2017 with CU 14.

I will appreciate if you could please tell me how did you fix that issue.

    Regards,
