  • Go to IIS manager,

right click "default web site" -> edit bindings, delete only the binding related to 443 and Microsoft Exchange. No need to delete the default 443 binding.

You might try to uninstall IIS role and then reinstall it, then restart installation.

  • Hi,

ErrorRecord: Microsoft.Exchange.Management.Clients.FormsAuthenticationMarkPathUnknownSetError: An unexpected error occurred while modifying the forms authentication settings for path /LM/W3SVC/1.  The error returned was 5506.

This error is related to installing default SSL certificate on IIS.

Have a look into this to resolve it:

    http://www.experts-exchange.com/Software/Server_Software/Email_Servers/Exchange/Q_23852190.html

If it still not resolves your issue, then i would recommend to reinstall the IIS and then install the Exchange.

  • If this is for 2013 -

An unexpected error occurred while modifying the forms authentication settings for path /LM/W3SVC/1.  The error returned was 5506.

then there is no need to uninstall IIS ....

any un-install of exchange 2013 leaves the certificates behind simply go to server certificates under IIS and remove them.

Restart the install and it carries on from where it failed ... happy days.
