Performing Exchange 2010 Disaster Recovery using M switch RRS feed

  • Question

  • the Question is whether we need to run installation from service pack to package only?

if we follow the steps as per recovery:

    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/dd876880.aspx

    1. Reset the computer account for the lost server. For detailed steps, see Reset a Computer Account.
    • 2. Install the proper operating system and name the new server with the same name as the lost server. Recovery won't succeed if the server on which recovery is being performed doesn't have the same name as the lost server.
    • 3. Join the server to the same domain as the lost server.
    • 4. Install the necessary prerequisites and operating system components. For details, see Exchange 2010 System Requirements and Exchange 2010 Prerequisites.
    • 5. Log on to the server being recovered and open a command prompt.
    • Navigate to the Exchange 2010 installation files, and run the following command:
    • 6. After Setup has completed, but before the recovered server is put into production, reconfigure any custom settings that were previously present on the server.

  • sorry some how it didn't posted requried text/.

Further, we want to apply service pack 2 as to match the production before we restore data.  running service pack 2 with the m reocvery swithc result in the following errors:

"THE FOLLOWING SERVER ROLES ARE ALREADY INSTALLED"

is that mean we have to do installation from service pack 2 package instead from original media.

    thanks

  • You mean when running setup? Yes, you can run from the same SP level as the original installation. No need to install RTM first.

  • yes.

    Setup /m:RecoverServer

So what i understand the original media we have Exchange 2010 with SP1 will not be needed at all for disaster recovery???

    thanks

  • Hello,

I understand that you have ran the Recover server using the Exchange 2010 sp1 or RTM files and now want to upgrade the server to Sp2.

In this case, you have to run, 'Setup /m:upgrade' instead of Setup /m:recoverserver.

Reason: All the required roles has been already installed when you did the 'Recover server' and you cannot go ahead and 'install' the same roles again.

    Hope this Helps!

    Cheers!!

  • Hello,

If your original server is Exchange 2010 SP1, and now you want upgrade to Exchange 2010 SP2, you can use Setup /m upgrade.

    Upgrade Exchange 2010 to Exchange 2010 SP1 or Exchange 2010 SP2
