App-V 5, Creating Shortcuts RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hello, I'm tryng to create our application shortcuts in a directory, for example C:\temp but the shortcut is not getting created. Authenticated users have write access to this folder but for some reason App-V will not create a shortcut here. I'm setting it up as a CUSTOM location.

    Am I missing something?

  • Hi Nicke, thanks for your response. I didn't get chance to speak to you at the AppVUG, I asked the question about licensing, another feature which has sadly been dropped.

What I'm trying to get to grips with is at the user group it was mentioned in the feed the birds talk that applications cannot be deployed via other delivery tools, i.e there is no osd file now to reference so without a shortcut you cannot launch the software.

We have a inhouse written piece of software that links to software links so users can launch the software inside this GUI, we delete any shortcuts in the start menu.

I was thinking of pointing our GUI to a folder containing the shortcuts but you have said this cannot be done. Do you know what is a CUSTOM location?

  • If it is only start menu shortcuts, than the apps could be published globaly and NTFS permissions could be used to control user's access there. Or you introduce a 'get_it_all' user if you hesitate from global publishing.
