public folder replication issue RRS feed

  • Question

  • So i have a new mailbox server which i created a new public folder database(2010) on.  I will be decommissioning the old public folder server(running 2010).

How can i move all the data to this new public folder DB?

I see the actual folders already created in the new PFDB, but there is no content in them.

In checking the queue viewer i see about 111 message count stuck in the "hub version 8" queue. With Delivery type as "SMTP RELAY IN Active Directory" .  the from address is publicfolderdatabase2010@company.com and the status is ready, the recipient is publicfolderdatabase@company.com.

I'm guessing these are the actual contents of the public folders trying to replicate to this new pf DB, but i don't know why its stays stuck in that queue.

Any help would be appreciated.  Again im going from a 2010 PFDB, to another 2010 PFDB within the same site.

this is how i actually got the public folders to replicate.

"In the Console tree, click Toolbox.
In the Result pane, double-click Public Folder Management Console. The Public Folder Management Console appears.
In the public folder tree, click or expand Default Public Folders, and then select the parent public folder of the public folder that you want to move to Exchange 2010. Note: To configure replication for the offline address book (OAB) or for Schedule+ free/ busy information, expand System Public Folders, and then click OFFLINE ADDRESS BOOK or SCHEDULE+ FREE BUSY.
In the Result pane, right-click the public folder you want to replicate to Exchange 2010 and select Properties.
On the Replication tab, click Add to select an Exchange 2010 public folder database and then click OK.
By default, Exchange uses the replication schedule configured for the public folder database. To create a custom replication schedule for the public folder, clear the Use public folder database replication schedule check box and select one of the settings in the list.
To create a customized schedule, click Customize.
To set the schedule, click the time grid in the Schedule dialog box. Public folder replication will run during the time slots that you specify.
Click OK to close the Schedule dialog box.
To specify the age limit for items in this public folder, type the number of days in the Local replica age limit (days) box. Items that have reached the age limit are deleted.
Note: Age limits should be used for public folders only. They should not be used for System Folders, such as OFFLINE ADDRESS BOOK or SCHEDULE+ FREE BUSY."

  • Enable protocol logging on the receive connectors and also on the implicit intra-organization send connector

    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/aa997624.aspx

A special Send connector named the intra-organization Send connector exists on every Hub Transport server. This connector is implicitly created, invisible, and requires no management. The intra-organization Send connector is used to relay messages to the following destinations:

To other Hub Transport servers in the Exchange organization, including Exchange 2007 Hub Transport servers

To Exchange Server 2003 servers in the Exchange organization

To Edge Transport servers in the Exchange organization

By default, protocol logging for the intra-organization Send connector is disabled. You can enable or disable protocol logging for the intra-organization Send connector by using the IntraOrgConnectorProtocolLoggingLevel parameter on the Set-TransportServer cmdlet. If you enable protocol logging for the intra-organization Send connector, logging occurs in the Send connector protocol logs configured on the Hub Transport server.

Those messages should NOT be stuck in a queue.....

  • Do you have subfolders of the public folders? I'm not sure if using that method sets up replicas for the subfolders. You can use exfolders (download from MS's site) to push changes to all folders quickly. Then you'll have to "update content" as well. I use this command to update the folder content for a root folder and all of it's subfolders.

Get-PublicFolder -identity '\RootFolder' -recurse -resultsize unlimited | Update-PublicFolder -server SourceServerName

  • Have you changed the default Receive connectors by any chance?    Typically see this as people change it to allow anonymous email from the Internet.  This looks to be OK until you add another server......

I'm wondering if Authentication is blocked between the Exchange servers.  We need to be able to authenticate!

  • its not replicating the contents of the subfolders, and i dont see the new server as a replication partner int eh replication tab of the subfolder so i think your right. that method doesnt replicate the subfolders.

in your command the \Rootfolder, do you mean the "Default Public Folders" that i see in the PFMC?

  • I'm not sure if you can run that command from the "Default Public Folders" level. I run it starting at the next level of folders. But if you don't see the replicas set for the subofolders, propogate that using the ExFolder program.

  • i found the issue to be the receive connector on and old 07 box was not allowing these 2 2010 ht servers to send email to it. i added the ip's of teh nlb nic's from the ht servers to the receive connector allow list and these emails are no longer in the queue.
