Exchange 2010 : OWA "Page cannot be displayed" on IE7 and IE8

  • Hello,

Last friday I renewed our self-signed certificate, and since then there is a problem with OWA. Some browsers get HTTP 404 when browsing to https://CASERVER/owa. When they do the same without SSL (http://CASERVER/owa), everything works fine. As a test I installed Firefox on the PC that has the issue, and in Firefox all works well. I also upgraded to IE8 as a test, but still it won't work.

The problem is not only owa, but all virtual directories on the mailserver. Even the root of the default website isn't able to be displayed. Browsing on that PC to another exchange 2010 does work. And since the problem started with the certificate change, I think the problem is situated on the server, but I don't know what to search for anymore.

    Things I already tested:

    - reset all virtual directories

    - disable "Require client certificate"

    - import the root certificate on the client

    - external access vs. internal access

Any ideas? I am quite stuck at the moment!

  • Hi

Did you reset the virtual directories according to

Are you able to connect using the ip address instead of the servername?

Try to recreate the self-signed certificate once again, and reassign it.

  • Sounds to me like the certificate is corrupt, and I would suggest replacing it.

Any reason you aren't using a commercial certificate? The self signed certificate isn't designed for production use, more as a place holder. A commercial certificate will cost less than $80/year from and will save a lot of headaches. No importing of the certificate, no prompts in clients, browsers etc.

  • Hello,

    1. Check the IIS service is started.

    2. In the IIS manger, please check the default web site is started and the Application pools are started.
