Host Headers Aren't Redirecting RRS feed

  • Question

  • I have stood up a 5 server farm with 2 load balanced WFEs, 2 app servers, and 1 SQL box.

I have done this several times, and never run into this issue. Central Admin is up all services except for search is live and operational. All SSL certs are in place, bindings are made, and AAM are accurate.

I have 3 host headers to utilize 443 on the WFEs. But when I navigate to any of them I only get the default IIS welcome page. It's like they aren't being routed at all.

  • Few things to check:

    1. Have you checked DNS to make sure it's routing properly?
    2. Firewall configuration
    3. Any errors in the ULS/Event Viewer/SQL Log File?

  • Hi SharePointAU,

Please check whether you have applied the host header to the default web site. Use the new site instead of the default web site.

Erratic behavior can occur when applying a host header name to the default web site if add-on packages for IIS (such as Microsoft Proxy Server) are also being used. For this reason, it is generally not recommended that you apply a host header name to the default web site created by IIS.

    Best Regards,

  • It was some internal networking we assumed was good, and clearly it was not.

    Thank you for your response.
