Using SSDS Explorer with Azure Table Storage RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hello,

Is there a way to use the SSDS Explorer Tool with Azure Table Storage (endpoints like http://{myname}.table.core.windows.net)?

Is there a difference between SQL Data Services (SDS) and Table Storage in Azure? Where can I find a document explaining the different clearly?

    Thanks,
    AV

The SDS Explorer is for exclusive with SQl Data Services.  Yes, there is a difference between SQL Data Services and Table storage.

"SDS will provide scalable relational database as a service (today, Joins, OrderBy, Top...are supported) and as it evolves, we plan to support other features such as aggregates, schemas, fan-out queries, and so on.  SDS just like any other database also supports blobs.  SDS is for Unstructured, Semi, and Structured data, with a roadmap of having highly available relational capabilities."

You can avail of the info pertaining to SDS and TSS from the various links mentioned below:

  • Anil,

You did not speak to the differences between SDS and Azure Table Storage.  Is there any documentation that explains the similarities, differences and limitations?  Why has microsoft introduced two different cloud data storage mechanisms?  As a developer I would like to make an informed decision as to which is right for our our organization.

    Thanks,

    ST

  • I agree with this. I'm trying to make a choice to why I should use Azure Tables versus SSDS and I really can't find anything on what differences there all.  All I know is that I can play around with SSDS now and not Azure Tables.

What's the difference? There is no documentation that I can find. :(

There isn't a definitive answer to this question just yet but this may help to give some background:

What’s the difference between SQL Data Services (SDS) and Azure tables?

  • Ahh, that makes more sense.  Looks like SDS is aimed at becoming and online relational database and Azure Table is more aimed at simple storage.  Thanks!

  • Thank you Jamie

Gabe: You have the correct assumption.  Our future releases will provide more clarity.
