AKSFRIDGE.SYS Blue Screen Error RRS feed

  • Question

  • Sometimes when I want to (re)start my computer or after when computer shuts down because of power shortage, it ends up in a blue screen error.

    It states:

"The problem seems to be caused by the following file: aksfridge.sys

    PAGE_FAULT_IN_NONPAGED_AREA"

    How can this be solved?

  • I just fixed this issue on a Windows Server 2003 machine with the following registry edit:

In HKLM\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\aksfridge\ change the value of “Start” from 2 to 4.

This disables a portion of Aladdin’s security driver and eliminates the problem. If the Aladdin protected application that you are using requires software activation this may not be an acceptable solution for you but if the app is only dongle secured then it may work.

From what I can find, this file appears to be associated with a product which is made by 'Aladdin Knowledge Systems Ltd.' The file is normally located in the C:\ Windows\ system32\ drivers folder.

I would recommend going to the program makers website and checking for any known issues for this product when installed on a Vista system.

Tips: Before you restart the computer, you should close all running programs. If you are in an area where you experience frequent power shortages, I would recommend that you look into getting a APC battery backup system to prevent damage to the computer.

  • I have the same blue screen realy often even if I close all aplications before shutting down the computer. Now it started happening even after rebooting the computer during inputing the password to enter the vista account. Every time it says I have a problem with aksfridge.sys.

Any other solutions? On the website you suggested I don't find any reference to aksfridge.sys.

That reference to the aksfridge.sys file was the only reference to this file that I could find doing an internet search. It apparently belongs to one of the products from Aladdin Knowledge Systems.

What you need to do is perform a search on your computer for that file. When it is found, right click the file and select Properties/Details Tab. This should show the information about the company and product this file is associated with.

We also need more information from the blue screen that you are seeing. Take a look at the following image.

    Blue Screen Error (BSOD)
    http://i196.photobucket.com/albums/aa86/rvmv/BSODDetails.jpg

There are 3 sections outlined in Red. This is the important information that is needed to help pinpoint where the error is coming from.

*NOTE: The layout of the BSOD you see may be different from the one in the image, but all of the same information should be there.

    Let me know the results.

  • So, this keeps happening on and on... I don't know how you can take screen shots of a BSOD, but this the problem info I get after successful reboot:

A similar BSOD problem appeared out of the blue on my vista laptop on start-up after the user logon. Logging on in safe-mode and changing the registry as Gregg suggests worked for me.

Aladdin Knowledge Systems seem not to offer help to end users. It seems to be part of their hasp copy protection, and I have no idea which applications may be affected.
