Exchange 2010 and KB 979744

I am installing Exchange 2010 on a new Windows Server 2008 R2 x64 instance. The exchange setup requires that several hotfixes be installed. The Exchange Readiness Check failes with the error:
Client Access Role Prerequisites
Failed
Error:
This computer requires the update described in Microsoft Knowledge Base article 979744 (http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?linkid=3052&kbid=979744). Please install the required update to proceed.
HELP! Any suggestions?

If the server is Windows Server 2008 R2, it will not show you "Windows Sever Enterprise, Service Pack 2", if it does, reinstall!! ;)

Hi Eclipse,
Install SP1 for Windows Server 2008 R2 first, the Patch KB979744 is not then longer required.

SP1 will not install because the OS shows as Windows Sever Enterprise, Service Pack 2. Seems we're stuck in a loop!Wednesday, April 27, 2011 11:31 PM

Hello,
Have you compare the system file versions according to the following KB?
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/979744
Are they newer on your computer?
Thanks,
Simon

Just a silly question. Is the update the x64 one for your specific OS, something like, Windows6.1-KB979744-x64?Saturday, April 30, 2011 3:10 PM

Yes, the one I'm installing is Windows6.1-KB979744-v2-x64.msuMonday, May 02, 2011 8:32 PM

Hi Sherrie,
I think it should be system files issue.
Does this issue occur when installing the other roles on other computer?
If it is convenient, a reinstall of the Windows should be the most efficient workaround solution.
Thanks,
Simon

If you decide to reinstall then I would go with Windows Server 2008 R2.
