Can't remove move request - Failed to communicate with the mailbox database RRS feed

  • Question

  • I have tried to move a mailbox from one Exchange 2010 server to another Exchange 2010 server which failed (due to a mail item being larger than our maximum limit). I tried to remove the Move Request but it failed with the message as below. Both the source and target databases are mounted and still in use. Can I force remove the Move Request?

  • Hi Cats Solutions,

Please run the cmdlet Get-MoveRequest | fl to check the details about the failed Remove Request, then run the cmdlet

Remove-MoveRequest -MoveRequestQueue "TargetDatabase value" -MailboxGuid "ExchangeGuid value"
Please also delete other completed Move Requests.
If it still fails, please run the cmdlet Get-MailboxStatistics -Database "TargetDatabase value" to see whether it works or not.
And please check whether there are related error events in the Event Viewer.
Do you have anti-virus software installed(e.g. GFI) on the Exchange server? If yes, please disable it or uninstall it to test.

  • 1. Open ADSIEDIT and navigate to the OU where your broken user account is stored.
    2. Locate the user account, right-click on it and then choose "Properties".
    3. Click on the "Filter" button and make sure "Show only attributes that have values" is checked.
    4. Scroll down the attributes and search for an entry called "msExchMailboxMoveRemoteHostName".
    5. Click on the "Edit" button.
    6. Click on the "Clear" button.
    7. Click the "OK" button.
