Windows Server 2008 R2 Remote Desktop - Easy Print Issue with Excel 2007

Question
-
Hi,
We are having an issue printing from Excel 2007 on a WS2008 R2 x64 RD session host. Each cell from excel is printed on a new page on certain printers. I have researched and found that this is a known issue and there is ahotfix available for WS2008 in KB979163, http://support.microsoft.com/kb/979163 .
Does this hotfix apply to WS2008 R2 as well or is there another download for WS2008 R2?
Best Regards,

hi Amro, that hotfix unfortunately cannot be applied to WS2008 R2. Hotfix installation runs checks for OS compatibility and it will block it from being installed.
I've also encountered weird printing issues (mine was with pdf) where the fix existed for WS 2008 but not R2. Unfortunately, I had to go ahead and install the print driver manually onto our RDSH servers to fix the issue.

Hi Microsoft,
anyone with any response or ideas? If this fix cannot be applied as per James below, what can be done?
Best Regards

currently the only that can be done is to install the printer driver locally and set your gpo to disable use easy print driver first. This will force it to use the local print driver and print properly.Thursday, April 29, 2010 8:30 PM

Thanks James, this is what I did but I wanted to know if there is a better way and if Microsoft are addressing this bug for R2 and when can we expect a fix.Friday, April 30, 2010 4:11 PM

Is it really too much to ask for a response to this question from Microsoft???Monday, May 3, 2010 1:05 AM

How long are we going to be waiting on this? Has anybody heard anything out of Microsoft yet? I've heard a rumor that somebody paid for support, and Microsoft refunded their money attempting to fix this issue..
