can I run exchange 2010 on member server

    Question

  • i have a little question

1- can I install exchange server 2010 on a member server 2008 r2 in a domain,or I must first run dcpromo and join server2008 to domain controller.

2-if I want to use an server as member server, must I enable active directory domain services role or that is not needed in member server.

    thanks hovhannes

    Hi HovHannes,

For security and performance reasons, we recommend that you install Exchange 2010 only on member servers and not on Active Directory servers. For detailed, please see, http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/aa996719.aspx (please look for Directory Architecture)

    Best regards,

    Serena
