SCOM 20102 R2: Query on agent install for Azure server

Question
-
Hi Team,
We want to connect our DC’s/GC’s to Azure Sentinel
Of course, currently these servers are monitored by SCOM as per the SCOM Agent (Microsoft Monitoring Agent)
Also we are deploying Virtual Machines in Azure that for which automatically the Azure Monitor Logs agent is enrolled (also MMA, but different version) that we then MultiHome to SCOM as well as to Azure Log Analytics. But as stated above, our DC’s/GC’s are deployed in Helion and have the SCOM Agent (MMA).
Question: Is it possible to install the Azure Monitor Logs agent (MMA) over the SCOM agent, thus replacing it?
I believe only then the DC’s/GC’s can be connected to Azure Sentinel, while being connected to SCOM as well for monitoring.Note: Not sure if this is also just the Azure Monitor Logs agent (MMA). Or is it a different agent that can be installed alongside the SCOM agent?

Kumar B

Hi,
The Microsoft Monitoring Agent (MMA) which is nowadays called the Log Analytics Agent can be used for reporting to both Azure and SCOM.
You'll find more information here:

You can also centralize Log Analytics configuration from SCOM console : https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/azure/azure-monitor/platform/om-agentsTuesday, August 4, 2020 7:12 AM

Hi,
Research and find another useful article about Migrating agents to Azure Log Analytics

Note: Non-Microsoft link, just for the reference.
Hope it can help.

Hi All,
just adding to my reply above, We are running SCOM 2012 R2 and few of the Azure servers are currently monitoring in SCOM. However as mentioned above the GC & DC servers are deployed in Helion and have the SCOM Agent (MMA)
Question: Is it possible to install the Azure Monitor Logs agent (MMA) over the SCOM agent, Instead of replacing it

Installing the Log Analytics Agent (MMA) over a SCOM agent will simply upgrade the existing agent, the existing settings of the SCOM agent will stay.

Hi Leon,
Thank you for the update, as you mentioned that existing settings of the SCOM agent will stay. This means the overrides and other existing SCOM agents settings will remain same.
