Problems installing System Center Essentials 2010 RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hello,

Im having problems installing System Center Essentials.
    I have a fresh Windows 2008 R2 STD 64x server.

When i try to install system center essentials 2010, i can go trough all the steps and the setup is installing the items, and it failes at Virtualization Management Client. During the setup i did not check the box for the updates (i have seen some topics about it causing problems).

The setup is installing its own 2008 sql server and instance.

I have already reinstalled the entire server and still having the same problems.

I hope someone can give me a hand here.

    Kind regards,

    Wesley.

  • that was going to be my next solution, typically a download is a download, but larger ones can be problematic.  glad it was simple.
Ok, so I changed my name...you can still call me Tom if you like. It's a...jump...to conclusions...mat.

  • this is a reinstall?  have you cleaned up sce from active directory?  If you have ANY traces of an old install, you will have problems.

  • There wasn't even any traces of the failed installation on the AD. Essential server has never been installed on the network. They had a new domaincontroler and exchange server.

that looks like a reinstall to me....

You'll need to post your setup logs, so we can see what's going on.

  • you should be able to.  review it first to edit out any proprietary information you don't want to be seen by the public.

  • wich one do you need me to copy past here i have a few.

SCEMSI, SCEPrereqCheck, SCESetupWizard, SetupProcessor and SetupSCE0 t/m SetupSCE21.

After removing everything (again) i was able to get a little bit further but now i got the error:

Application popup: SetupVMM.exe - Bad Image : E:\Setup\VMM\amd64\1033\LaunchScreen.DLL is either not designed to run on Windows or it contains an error. Try installing the program again using the original installation media or contact your system administrator or the software vendor for support.

Also i noticed that in the setting i unchecked the virtual ... option when i see the installation screen where you can see all the parts that are installing the virtual option is still there.

  • Did you update the server itself before attempting the install?  The error above I've seen before and it was related to the system running a very old version of msxml.  I would verify what version/versions of msxml you have installed, specifically MSXML 6.0

  • The easy way is to browse to %windir%\system32 and look at for msxml6.dll  and msxml6r.dll  but if memory serves me correctly, 2008R2 has it pre-installed, im a little out of it today so I don't quite remember.  If you can, post the scesetupwizard log file
