Error code 80072efd using XP - Windows messenger 2009

    Question

  • I installed the latest version of windows live (2009) and now can not log onto windows messenger. I was using the previous version of vindows messenger with no problems.

    The error signiture:

    AppName: wlcomm.exe   AppVer: 14.0.8064.206    ModName: ntdll.dll

    ModVer: 5.1.2600.5512    Offset: 0001b1fa

I have tried various fixes starting in messenger itself: Tools, Options, Connections
    (Hit refresh) no connection.
(Hit connection trouble shooter) states no problem
(Hit advanced settings) TCP test it states it a sucess

    The proxy server is blank.

I am using Virgin media as my internet provider
    Windows firewall has messenger accepted.
PCguard firewall has windows messenger accepted.

I am using a router but the firewall is swithed off

When i look in windows explorer it states i do not have a proxy server

Any help would be very much appreciated.  I do have an error log but its a bit big to post into here.
