Uninstall exchange 2003 after moving to exchange 2010 RRS feed

  • Question

  • On the exchange 2003 server control panel - Add or remove program - Select remove microsoft exchange

At the component selection - microsoft exchange - action remove get the following message:

    Microsoft Exchange Installaion Wizard

The component "Microsoft Exchange Messaging and Collaboration Services" cannot be assigned the action "Remove" because:

    - This server is the Recipent Update Server for the domain "example.domain.com". You cannot unistall this server until you select a different Recipient Update Server for this domain.

    - You cannot remve a server that is a target bridgehead for a routing group connector. This server is a targer bridgehead for the following connectors: exchg-exchange

Any suggust how to select a different recipient update server and how to remove target bridgehead?

    Thank you.

  • Routing Group Connectors No more used in Exchange 2010

If you don't have any more Legacy versions of Exchange 2003

You can run Get-RoutingGroupConnector | Remove-RoutingGroupConnector in Exchange management Shell

You don't want to rehome the RUS - Cause its not used by Exchange 2010

You can Delete RUS (Recipient Update Service ) using Adsiedit.msc

Open Adsiedit.msc on Exchange 2010 Server or any Server which has Adsiedit.msc

Right Click - Connect to - Chooose Configuration in the Center - Expand - Expand Services - Expand Microsoft Exchange -

-Administrative Groups = Address lists Container - Recipient Update Services - You can Remove the RUS

Enterprise RUS and Domain RUS (You can Delete it )

Then Remove it using Add or remove Programs

  • Hi Boomer8387,
I suggest that you follow the steps in the below links to successfully remove your last Exchange 2003 Server.
Since you seem to have missed the steps with RUS and routinggroups, there might also be other steps that you haven't done.
