OWA - An unexpected error occurred and your request couldn't be handled.

    Question

  • After OWA login I get the following error message when I execute the following;

Click on Options. Doesnt do anything after

Click on a message in inbox. loads the message

Click on Public Folders. Doesnt do anything after.

I also get this message when doing other things in OWA.

    Any ideas???

Answers

  • well I was able to figure this out my by self....

I setup redirection using this article.... http://briandesmond.com/blog/redirecting-owa-urls-in-exchange-2010/

In the article is stated to leave the redirection of /Public alone....

Well in testing, I removed http redirection from the /Public website, restarted IIS and

    BAM!!!!!

I've got an error free OWA... thus far.

  • I believe options comes from the /ecp virtual directory and public folders from the /public virtual directory, so I think you can narrow your diagnostics there.  Are there any settings that appear to be wrong in IIS?

  • Ed,

I did some research and I am trying to install the Exchange 2010 roll up 4, but having problems with windows installer. As I was researching, there was a fix in the roll up 3 that fixed this issue with OWA.

In the mean time, I am checking IIS. I did make some changes a few days ago (HTTP redirects and SSL) but didn't touch the ecp and Public portions of IIS. I went thru all of IIS and to me (IIS/Exchange newb) everything looks fine to me.

  • check authentication settings on  /ecp; if you configured a redirection at default website, disable the redirection at  /ecp level. + if you assigned multiple headers to the default website disable them and see if it works.

  • auth settings on /ecp are set to Integrated Windows Auth and Basic Auth.... (from ESM) and from IIS; anonymous Auth, Basic Auth, Windows Auth are enabled... ASP.Net Impersonation, Digest Auth and Forms Auth are disabled

Havent touched the headers (bindings with the default website...correct???), so what ever is there is what was put in there by Exchange or IIS, etc.

  • is default website redirection still enabled? be aware that once you enable redirection on a website all virtual dirs and apps nested under it inherit the redirection. please check if ecp has any http redirection and if yes disable it.

  • Make sure that in all your virtual directory settings, you've specified https: and not http: or else the requests will be redirected to OWA.

    Get-ClientAccessServer | fl Name,AutoDiscoverServiceInternalURI

    Get-OWAVirtualDirectory | fl InternalURL,ExternalURL

    Get-ECPVirtualDirectory | fl InternalURL,ExternalURL

    Get-WebServicesVirtualDirectory | fl InternalURL,ExternalURL

    Get-OABVirtualDirectory | fl InternalURL,ExternalURL

    Get-ActiveSyncVirtualDirectory | fl InternalURL,ExternalURL

Use the corresponding Set- cmdlet to make any changes.

    Here is the output;

    [PS] C:\Windows\system32>Get-ClientAccessServer | fl Name,AutoDiscoverServiceInternalURI

There were some mismatche(was not HTTPS and had a previous name when I installed exchange 2010) with OAB external URL, but I changed and reset IIS.

Still getting errors in OWA. I would also like to note that I am only getting this on the Exchange 2010 OWA. If I login as a legacy user.. this isnt happening.

One thing I found that doesn't seem right is the Default Web Site bindings in IIS... Ive got a type http and https with port 80 and 443 with IP address * and at the bottom I've got  the same http and https with same ports, but tied to 127.0.0.1.

I removed and restarted iis with /noforce and they deleted... tested owa, still getting error msg.

I think its time for me to call MS Support......

    BAM!!!!!

I've got an error free OWA... thus far.

  • Also worked for me!

For the record, the problem started on my site after a Lync update, owa-lync integration died... and everything got worse.

Changing the public redirection seems to bring back everything to normality so far.

    Thanks!

  • Following that article too left me getting this same error.  I tried to remove the check box for redirection in /Public but when I do, it also removed the redirection automatically from /Exchange, /Exchweb and /owa.  Did no one else have this occur?  Why can I not just change the /Public setting without the others following suit?

    Any help would be appreciated!

  • I get the same problem as ITMonkey, any way round this, can you change the individual folder settings.

  • Posting my fix for others... In my case I fixed this by changing the '.Net CLR Version' of the MSExchangePowershellAppPool from version 4 to version 2.

I too struggled for hours on this one, on no other site have I seen mention of what worked for me, I hope it helps...
