A .mpp file is usually a Microsoft Project file. You would need Microsoft Project installed to open it.
If You don't want to install expensive Microsoft Project. You can try MPP Repair Kit.

Are you working with Project Server of MS Project in standalone mode? And which version of Project?
First of all, what was the result that makes you tell your file is corrupted? There might be causes (duplicated resources, blank lines. Please tell us more.
To repair your file, try the XML export and the save for sharing method to repair it.
Finally since we don't push for any particular tool (we are just volunteers here on this forum), just type "ms project repair tool" on your browser's search engine and you'll find a few repair tools on the market.
