Cannot create a new distribution list in Exchange 2007 GAL using Outlook 2007. RRS feed

  • Question

  • I have a client who wanted to create and manage new distribution lists in Exchange 2007 GAL using his Outlook 2007. However, he could not and would get the following error message: YOU CANNOT CREATE ENTRIES FOR THIS ADDRESS BOOK

I am not sure if this is by design or is there a work around.

So far I have given him full access to the Distribution Group folder in Active Directory but did not help.

You cannot create a distribution group in the AD from Outlook.

  • If you are using outlook, you can save it only in an Address Book or in your Contacts folder.

  • Distribution lists should be created on the Exchange 2007 Server using the Exchange Management Console or Exchange Management Shell. Don't forget to go to Active Directory and give the owner/manager the ability to update the list membership. Once that is done he can add/remove members via Outlook.
