  • Question

  • Hi,

I am trying to deploy a MSI Appplication as Available and with "An administrator must approve a request for this application on the device", I have deployed it to "device Collection"

But the Application does not appear on the Software Center.

    here are my steps

on the Client machine I see in the AppDiscovery.log, no error message

+++ MSI application not discovered [MSI Product Code: {3E5F39FC-17FC-42EE-B026-4ECC93C16447}, MSI Product version: ]

+++ Did not detect app deployment type  - Windows Installer (*.msi file)(ScopeId_1E2BACE5-A6EC-49F2-877F-C7D01DC6A5CC/DeploymentType_a05e21f1-0d67-4137-bc35-c6072ed72b8d, revision 1) for system.

Is the reason because I deployed it to a device collection?

    Regards

  • This is functioning as designed; see https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/mem/configmgr/apps/deploy-use/install-app-for-device

  • Ok thanks for your Note. How can know the user that any application is available for him? what sense does it make that option? The users should see the app in Software center but it should not popup any notification an the client machine.

  • Sorry, I don't understand the question.

The reason nothing is showing is because you've chosen to require approval for the deployment and it's targeted to devices.

If you want the software to show in Software Center, then either configure the deployment to not require approval or use user targeting instead.

  • Hi Jason,

I know that I can deploy to user collection. But what is my advantage for me if I deploy to device collection with require approval for the deployment and it's targeted to devices.?

  • Hi,

With these deployment settings, no policy is sent to the client. The app isn't shown as available in Software Center, and a user can't install the app with this deployment. After you use this action to install the app, the user can run it, and see its installation status in Software Center.

    Best Regards,
    Larry
