Running a games programme which is in 32 bit format on my 64 bit Windows 7 operating system RRS feed

  • Question

  • I have a new version of The Times Bridge game by GSP for PC. I have asked them this question but they have had the decency to respond.

This will not run on my computer which has 64 bit Windows 7 operating system

The games programme is in 32 bit format.

Can anyone offer advice on whether or not this can be done?

  • Can I run 32-bit programs on a 64-bit computer?

Most programs designed for the 32-bit version of Windows will work on the 64-bit version of Windows. Notable exceptions are many antivirus programs.

Device drivers designed for 32-bit versions of Windows won't work on computers running a 64-bit version of Windows. If you're trying to install a printer or other device that only has 32-bit drivers available, it won't work correctly on a 64-bit version of Windows. If you are unsure whether there is a 64-bit driver available for your device, go online to theWindows Vista Compatibility Center.

TLDR: It should work just fine

  • Hi,

In general most 32-bit applications will work just fine in a 64-biit operating system, but there are some exceptions.  You also need to consider hardware compatibility with a 64-bit operating system.  One easy way to check if your hardware and applications will work would be to check the Windows 7 compatibility center:

If it cannot work for 64bit,
please understand that whether an application can work on a 32bit or 64bit OS is based on how it is developed. We cannot control it from the OS configuration side.

  • I have the same problem.
I have a game that runs fine in Windows 7 on my 32 bit computer, but will not run on the 64 bit computer (also with Windows 7 but in 64 bit). I know the game is not compatible with the 64 bit system because the error message says so. But why should this be a problem? I have DOSbox, which lets me run DOS games on the 64 bit Windows computer. It does this by creating a virtual environment that simulates DOS. Is there an EMULATOR or some similar sandbox type program that will let me run the 32 bit programs on the 64 bit computer?
