windows DVD maker error message data area passed to a system call is too small RRS feed

  • Question

  • Running windows 7 .... most discs burn ok but for some reason I am getting an error message Cannot create the DVD the data area passed to a system call is too small... using a clean DVD.... and when I add the files to the DVD maker it is only 105 minutes of 150 minutes available....

Can someone please explain what the error message means ... and how to over come it... I am sick of wasting discs as they become unuseable .... when I check the properties of the disk it is full but there are no files on it when opened in with windows explorer.... The original files were recorded using the Windows Media Centre...

  • Hi,

    Thank you for your post!

There could be an error in its registry keys that is causing the problem. I would suggest a system restore first.

To troubleshoot the issue, In case this is caused by conflict with certain third party software, let us prepare clean boot.

Clean Boot prevents software conflicts by preventing the startup items and non Microsoft services from loading. This way you can safely follow the process of elimination to check which application is causing this behavior.

Note: Ensure that you put your computer back to normal startup mode after completing the troubleshooting steps. Steps are available in the article given above.
