How do I stop the distribution manager from retrying 100 times?

Question

Hopefully there is a quick answer to this. I was experimenting with a server share distribution point and did not configure permissions properly. I want to remove it and create a dp on a different server now. However, the package copy does not stop after removing the server share dp. I am getting error messages in the distmgr.log and entries like this: "Failed to process package VFB0017F after 80 retries, will retry 20 more times."
I have Windows 2003 SP2 server running SCCM 2007 SP2 R2.
Is there a way to abort these retries now? Can I restart a service without taking down the other admin consoles (of course this is production environment). We are small enough company that I can restart during the day if necessary, but I thought there may be another less drastic solution. Thanks!

Component Configuration -> Software Distribution. You might need an hotfix: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/978021/en-us

Thanks for the quick reply! I changed the number of retries in the component configuration to 2 and it stopped right away. No need for the hotfix at this time.

Actually, even though the distmgr.log shows there will be no more retries, the package keeps retrying 2 times, then starts the count over. I will be applying the hotfix asap!

Thanks Marjorie,
This really helped me fix my distribution issue on DP.
