EWS: error while using autodiscover: the autodiscover service could not be located

    Question

  • hi,

    i have an error creating the ew service. i trace the service and have a huge XML which shows the cause of the errors.

    here the code which creates the session:

    ExchangeService service = new ExchangeService(ExchangeVersion.Exchange2010);
    service.Credentials = new System.Net.NetworkCredential("user", "pass", "domain");
    service.TraceEnabled = true ;
    service.AutodiscoverUrl("email");

    here the XML output:

    N=Configuration,DC=domoff,DC=local'</EwsLogEntry>

    there are different problems descriped in the XML - i don't know where to start.

    i've read something about DNS aliases and think that could be the problem. can somebody tell me what i need to configure on the DNS? what is autodiscover-s.outlook.com? (http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en/exchangesvrdevelopment/thread/5ce1cdda-4167-4061-afac-97c0b2544e86)

  • hello

    first sorry for my english not so good

    for your problem, i had the same and i resolv it with that :

    i replace the audisover by employing directly the url of the server . so  here is my code :

    string strUri = "http://myserver/EWS/Exchange.asmx"

    ExchangeService

    service = new ExchangeService(ExchangeVersion.Exchange2007_SP1);service.Credentials = new NetworkCredential(strUserName, strPassword, strDomain);

    // for test : service.TraceEnabled =

    true;

    service.Url =

    new Uri(strUri);

    note the best is use the url by the way of the webConfig.

    i hope you'll find help in these lines

    greetings,

    AL

  • Applications should always use Autodiscover. It is not good practise to use the EWS URL directly, unless Autodiscover failed for some reason.

    In the log above, I see a lot of 401 responses that tend to indicate that the credentials used are invalid.

  • 223,

    Now that I have read the very end of your post :) it looks like you are trying to get Autodiscover working for a cloud account in Outlook.com. You need to create a DNS CNAME record to mape autodiscover.yourdomain.com to autodiscover-s.outlook.com

  • hi,

    thank you for your response.

    @algeox: as david says, this might be a workaround, but it's not the fine solution i'm looking for. thank you for the input.

    @david: no i want to connect to a privat exchange 2010 server. i just didn't understand what this autodiscover-s.outlook.com is.

    there are so many error responses in this XML - how can i ensure which response is the one i need to fix? ..the credentials should be correct.

    greetings

  • for setting the credentials, i use following line:

    new System.Net.NetworkCredential("username", "pa$$word", "domain");

    the password i have, has several special characters like "$" - do i need to escape these characters in the password string? i think i don't have to but having no idea why it's not working.

    have somebody another idea? :-/

    I hope this helps to find out why your auto-discover is not working. I have not tried with Outlook 2010.

    If you hold down [Ctrl], and then right click on the Outlook tray icon, with Outlook 2007, "Connection Status" and "Test E-mail AutoConfiguration" appear. E-mail AutoConfiguration testing is handy for Exchange 2007 setups.

    Enter Email Address and  Password

    Select Use Auto Discover. See if this works. If this does not work then do more reading on Auto Discover configuration.

  • miamiocs2007, thank you for your input.

    unfortunately i can't try this, cause i only have outlook 2003 running.

    ------------------

    is it possible that the connection doesn't work cause my exchange server has a not verrified certificate? (we have an own certificate)

    Get MS Outlook 2007 Client, I'm not sure why the company you are working do not want to provide required software. Talk to them and convince to get required software. Without proper tools you will be left behind.

  • hi miamiocs,

    it's not about outlook 2007, its about c# coding and creating a connection via exchange web services to the exchange 2010 server, where i have several issues with autodiscover. it's not possible for me to get outlook 2007 for this problem i have... that mustn't be required for a proper solution.

    greetings

    btw: we are paketing outlook 2010 at the moment, don't worry our company is soon up to date with the newest windows software
