Exchange 2010 SP1 /hosting - change default OWA Public Timeout

    Question

  • Good Day,

I am attempting to change the Public Time out for OWA from the default 15 minutes with no luck.  I have done the Registry edit as stated in the following posts:

    http://msexchangegeek.com/2009/10/22/changing-owa-time-out-on-an-exchange-2007-computer/

    http://telnet25.wordpress.com/2010/08/24/set-owa-private-computer-cookie-time-out-value-exchange-2010/

which state this addition to registry:

    • HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\MSExchangeOWA
    • Name: PublicTimeout
    • Type: DWORD
    • Value: {value in minutes} (This value is 15 minutes by default)  <--- I set this to 180 (3 hours)

I made change on both of my CAS machines and restarted IIS on both.  I then login using public option via OWA and wait 15 minutes to see if it logs out...SADLY, it does log me out after 15 minutes.

What am I doing wrong?  Has the registry setting changed between Exchange 2010 and SP1?  is it not available in the /hosting?

  • Hi,

Please go through the article below to correct set the value:

Set the Forms-Based Authentication Public Computer Cookie Time-Out Value

    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb124787.aspx

After that, please iisreset /force and then check the issue again.

Note: You must restart the Forms-Based Authentication service for the changes to take effect.

    Regards,

    Xiu
