New Web Application not creating structure in windows explorer

    Question

  • Recently when attempting to create a web application and later extend it through Central Administration, the web application creation completes and shows the web application in Central Administration, however it isn't accessible and when looking further, the structure wasn't created within the wwwroot\wss\VirtualDirectories location. Removing the web applications and creating them through PowerShell properly created the structure. Has anyone seen this before and is there any way to resolve this?

  • Did you check if 'Idle time out' property of the Application pool is set to 'False'.

    Ref.

  • Hi,

Try to change the "Shutdown time Limit" in the Web Application Pool for the Central Admin pool to 400.

If above does not work, check below things:

    1. Check if SharePoint Timer and Admin services running on your servers.

    2. Try to reset IIS on the server and then check the results.

    Best regards,

    Allen Bai

  • The shutdown time limit was set to 400 already and the SharePoint Admin and Timer Services were both running.  The folder structure wasn't created previously with the IIS Reset.  The server was rebooted during scheduled maintenance and the folder structure was then created as expected during the creation through Central admin.  We are only experiencing this on one of our Farms

  • Hi,

Do you mean your issue solved after the server rebooted?

    Best regards,

  • That is correct, after the server was rebooted the file structure was created. I haven't had to create another web application to see if the issue still persists.  I am planning to schedule the creation of another Web Application to see if it is during a maintenance window.
