  • Hi SP2013Devp,

    When you navigate to http://your site/_layouts/15/RecycleBin.aspx, there is no "Empty Recycle Bin".

    Navigate to site settings->Recycle bin, then you navigate to:

    http://your site/_layouts/15/AdminRecycleBin.aspx, you can see "Empty Recycle Bin":

    To empty Recycle Bin, you can also select all items in recycle and click Delete Selection .

    Best Regards,

    Lisa Chen

  • Hi SP2013Devp,

    You can select all the items, and click "Delete Selection" to empty the recycle bin of the particular site.

  • Dear Lisa,

    I need to delete 16 K items from recycle bin and one time I can only select 50 items after clicking on select all option. So deleting 16 K item will take more time for me.

    Please advice if there is option in SharePoint 2013 to delete all 16K item from Site Recycle bin.

    Thanks.

  • Hi,

    Just leave it to "Timer Service for Recycle Job" on your server. If you want to schedule this timer job to run as soon as possible, the schedule it to Run Now from your central administrator web application.

    Ensure all no conflict on this service on your farm before checking the above.

  • Hi SP2013Devp,

    You can try to use PowerShell to empty site recycle bin, here are some reference:

    https://www.c-sharpcorner.com/blogs/clear-sharepoint-sites-recycle-bin-using-powershell-script1

    https://albandrodsmemory.wordpress.com/2015/12/22/delete-all-items-in-recycle-bin-by-powershell/

    Note:if you just want to empty site recycle bin, please test the PowerShell in a test site.

    Best Regards,

    Lisa Chen

  • Same problem here with Sharepoint 2013: no icon to "Empty Recycle Bin" as showed in the documentation.

    1. I don't have a server access so I cannot run Powershell commands
    2. I only want to delete one website's bin
    3. I don't want to wait for doing it
    4. I'm not a server central administrator, so I cannot change jobs
    5. I have thousands of items to delete, so doing 50 by 50 items is not an option

    Any idea?

  • So I ended up with my own JS function to do it:

    // I use SharepointPlus from http://aymkdn.github.io/SharepointPlus/
    // make sure to load it first
    // also the below code should be run in a modern browser like Chrome

    function PromiseChain(arr, fct) {
      var dfd = Promise.resolve();
      var res = arr.map(function(item, idx) {
        dfd = dfd.then(function() {
          return fct(item,idx)
        });
        return dfd
      });
      return Promise.all(res)
    }

    // use REST API https://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/office/jj246911.aspx
    var websiteURL = 'https://sharepoint.intranet/sandbox/';
    $SP().ajax({url:websiteURL+'/_api/web/RecycleBin'}).then(data => {
      let items = data.d.results; // all the recycle bin content for the website
      PromiseChain(items, function(item,idx) {
        console.log(idx+"/"+items.length)
        return $SP().ajax({
          url:websiteURL+"/_api/web/RecycleBin('"+item.Id+"')/deleteObject",
          method:"POST"
        }) // delete all items one by one
      })
    })

  • Not really the answer to the question, but if you want to delete it via code:

    $web = Get-SPWeb http://site

    $web.RecycleBin | %{$web.RecycleBin.Delete($_.ID)}

    If this is helpful please mark it so. Also if this solved your problem mark as answer.
