Mullti-page ERD

  • I'm creating an ERD that needs to span multiple pages. However, it appears Visio 2010 does not have a mechanism for representing a relationship between two entities on different pages...or am I missing something?

  • I am having the same problem in finding the off page reference in Visio 2010. The above link only applies to Visio 2003. When can I find the off page reference in Visio 2010?

  • It's in the stencil Basic Flowchart Shapes.

  • The Off Page reference doesn't maintain the Foreign Key relationship to an Entity, it's only for navigating between pages. The only way I have managed to do thsi so far is to copy and paste the off page entities and colour code them to show they are off page references. Ideally I want to be able to link accross pages. It's easier to have split parts of my diagram into Party, Order, Products, Promotion, Messaging, etc. I currently have 21 pages and over 170 entities.

In 2010 you can have a much larger "Page" so that might be an answer and then have the printer print it on A4 pages. Then maybe the only issue is labelling for each of your pages which will have to sit within the very large page.

  • In MS Visio 2010 or 2007. In Visio 2007 goto the Database menu View>Tables and Views once you can seen the list of tables and views you can go to the page you want to link the table to as well and drag it from the list to the new page and it will keep all previous relationships and will dynamically update on both pages for anychanges made to it on either page. In Visio 2010 goto the Database tab and check the Tables & Views and do the same as above. I hope this helps someone with this issue.

  • @Jerry921: This solution also works for us ancient users of Visio 2002! and is just what I was looking for.
