Windows is updated automatically, despite the manual configuration RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hello,

please help me understand why system begin automatically update even settings are "3. Auto download and notify for install".

    Group policy result is:

It looks fine and registry two.

But if I look at local policy, there default settings.

The default settings prevent updates from being installed automatically. But still, the server (more than one) reboots automatically.

  • Hello,

    I had a common issue.

20 servers with same windows update configuration, and one how is rebooting like yourse.

I just repaired windows update on targeted server.

    1. Stop the WUA service.
      • Delete the SoftwareDistribution folder.(c:\windows\softwaredistribution)
    2. Restart the WUA

I hope that your problem is easy as mine

  • Hi,

Did Olivier's advice solve your problem?

If the issue still remains, you could refer to the following steps to disable automatic updates on Server 2016

1.Open an elevated command prompt window or PowerShell session

    2.Type sconfig and press enter.

    3.Select option 5

4.Now select “A” for automatically download and install updates, “D” for download only or “M” for Manual updates.

Hope above information can help you.
