After 12Oct11 update to Windows 7 (64bit) cannot recognise as formatted with data an internal Seagate Barracuda 500Gb SATA drive or an external WD 500Gb SATA hard drive

  • Found the answer on delving into more forum material after leaving the question. For some reason I now have to specifically asign a drive letter for these drives, but once assigned all data is seen again. Hopefully the correction is permanent! This appears to have been a problem reported by some installers in 2009/2010.

Did originally raise as a query, but leaving answer in case useful. No clue as to the reason, but does seem to be associated with the last Microsoft update. All was working fine before the update!
