Port exhaustion - failover clustering - rhs.exe RRS feed

  • שאלה

  • Hi

Did someone here experience ports exhaustion problem related to the  failover clustering process (rhs.exe)

Bound ports count by rhs.exe is increasing continuously and yielding to ports exhaustion problem eventually.

The problematic rhs.exe monitors SQL Server Availability Groups Listener Name resources ?

Any ideas why it can happen ?

  • Maybe something in this blog (https://blogs.technet.microsoft.com/clinth/2013/08/09/detecting-ephemeral-port-exhaustion/) will give you some ideas.

Also, because this is a question about a SQL cluster, you might want to ask the SQL HA experts over in their forum located at https://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/home?forum=sqldisasterrecovery

  • From a windows perspective; generally if the process uses some dynamically assigned range of ports and didn't complete (and close) successfully and is repeatedly being triggered then it may be expected behavior to eventually run out of ports. I'd agree with Tim to ask whoever owns or configures this process for help.
