Server 2016 powershell enable remote desktop services (RDS)

    Pertanyaan

  • We are new to powershell and have a new AWS EC2 Windows 2016 server and we wish to automate the enabling of RDS.  Out of the box the server supports no more than 2 concurrent logins.  How do we configure the server to support more concurrent users?  We are familiar with manually configuring the older Terminal Services on 2012 but can't figure this out via Powershell in 2016.

The error we get is "Unable to connect to the server by using Windows PowerShell remoting. Verify that you can connect to the server."

    Thanks.

  • You have to configure RDS for this.  It is set for admin only by default.

Add the RDS role to the server and provide CALS for the sessions.

  • Sorry I should have clarified that we are getting the "unable to connect to the server by using Windows PowerShell remoting. Verify that you can connect to the server." error after we issue the New-RDSessionDeployment command.

So, while the CALS info is appreciated and helpful, I don't think we're even able to install the required Role services.

  • Remoting must be enabled for this command to work.  Test remoting first.

    Enter-PsSession <server name>

  • That does not solve the problem.  There's a post on Microsoft's forums a mile long about this issue with no resolution.  Any other troubleshooting tips are welcomed.  Thanks again.
