Why do i have a process named CcmExec.exe running on my Windows 10 machine? RRS feed

  • Question

  • I have a process named CcmExec.exe running on my Windows 10 machine.  I dont know why.  When i query that executable online, i see references to System Center Configuration Manager.   Is there anyway i can determine why this process/executable exists on my particular Windows 10 PC?  Maybe i tried Configuration Manager at one point?  Maybe i had an agent installed?  Please advise.

  • ccmexec.exe is the filename and process for the Configuration Manager agent yes. You may want to review the properties of the file though to validate this and it's digital signature to validate that this is indeed the ConfigMgr agent and not malware masquerading as the ConfigMgr agent.

How and why it got there can't be known by anyone outside or your organization (without a crystal ball or some other ancient black magic).
