usb access in hyper v RRS feed

  • on my laptop running win 8 pro   i need to be able to have usb accses to hyper v  running win xp 

    i have instaled a software  seimens step 7 plc programing  and it needs to be activated using a usb

    i can not figure out how to get my usb to show up in hyper v    most of the info i find is about win 2012 server and that dose not really help me as i dont have that

    any help is appreciated

  • If you have a USB licensing HASP it is unknown if this is possible.  As the USB ports don't simply pass through.

    Your best bet is to use RDP to access the VM directory over RDP. 

    Oh, but that won't work, and neither will Enhanced Session mode.  Since Windows XP is so old that it lacks the USB redirection in the RDP Server.

    That leaves your only option of any of the various USB over IP products.

    That is it.  Those are the only options.

  • usb over ip products.  im not sure what that is   

    is it posible to do a internal network  host to guest?

    there are programs that rederect usb   has anybody tryed that

  • The are programs/devices that allow connection to USB through the network.  Early on, those were commonly reported in various forums as the solution to this sort of issue.  However, with Windows XP out of support, it is now a guess as to whether or not you will find a vendor that supports it for XP.  You can try, because it used to work.  But if it doesn't, there is not really much recourse today.
