Group policy setting blocking downloads from https even on trusted sites

    Question

  • We have a lot of group policy settings enabled in this environment. We have an extremely strange issue where it is not allowing us to download content (in this case a .rdp file) over Https but will work over http. It does not say that it is not allowed but instead of asking if we want to open the file its asking us to save the file which is not permitted. If we disable the GPO it will allow us to hit the open button.

Does anyone know which policy might be causing this?

  • We were able to figure it out!

    the GPO was under:

    User Configuration\Policies\Administrative Templates\Windows Components\ Internet Explorer\Internet Control Panel\Security Pages\Advanced Page\Do not save encrypted pages to disk.

Users are not allowed to save files to the disk (only temp files for trusted sites) So that GPO was preventing the temp directory save so everything was denied.

  • Hi,

You could check the following Group Policies to see if you can get rid of this issue:

    User Configuration\ Administrative Templates \Windows Components\Internet Explorer\Browser menus
