Help locating an app in sharepoint RRS feed

  • Question

  • Long story short someone built us a SharePoint site then they passed away. He built in an application that is the heart of the site and we don't know how to locate the source of the file. We have run into issues with the server the site is located and want to re-locate it but can't unless we can find this source code to create another SharePoint site on the new server.

Any advice that can be given to find this file would be appreciated. This is the file in question is listed as app in site contents

  • Hi Glewis4040.

Could you post a screenshot of the app displayed in the Site Contents page?
The code could have been packed into a SharePoint Solution Package (a .WSP file) that could have been deployed into the farm at a certain scope: you could open the Central Administration site, go to System Settings and click Manage farm solutions under Farm Management to get a list of all the solutions that have been deployed into the farm.
Each solution can be downloaded by executing the below PowerShell snippet

    $farm = Get-SpFarm
    $file = $farm.Solutions.Item(“SolutionA.wsp”).SolutionFile
    $file.SaveAs(“C:\SolutionA.wsp ”)

You have to change the name of the .WSP file to the one corresponding to the solution you want to download; after downloading all the solution you want, you can re-deploy them, if necessary

    Bye.
