Outlook hangs (Office 365 ) RRS feed

  • Hi,

    Microsoft Office ProPlus 365 is installed in one of the user machine (Dell Latitude 5285). Windows 10 64 bit Enterprise edition is installed.

    Outlook works in Office network and in VPN connection. But it hangs frequently when not connected in VPN at home or hotel. 

    I have performed the below. 

    1. Checked that Cached mode is enabled Outlook
    2. No PST files are mapped
    3. Updated Office 365. Now version of Outlook is 16.0.9226.2114
    4. Enabled “"Disable hardware graphics acceleration"  in outlook which resolves many of the issues

    Issue 1 : How to resolve the Outlook hanging issue which happens at public network (Without connected in VPN)

    Issue 2 : How to resolve frequent password prompt

    I've researched a lot and haven't found other related official article. Have you tested on online mode? It was reported by some users that online mode could be helpful.

    When Outlook hangs, please have a look at Event Viewer and see if any fault module will be recorded out there so that we can do more research.

    Have you tried switching to online mode to test the result?

    Besides, we could uncheck Automatic Configuration from Internet Options to see the result. To do this, please go to Control Pane > Internet Options. Under Connection tab, click LAN Settings. Unselect "Automatically detect settings".

    >>Issue 2 : How to resolve frequent password prompt

    Does Outlook prompts for password when connected to public network?

    According to my research, this issue is usually related with the client authentication method of Outlook Anywhere. Please try setting the client authentication method of Outlook Anywhere to NTLM Authentication on the Exchange server to check the result.

    What’s more, we can start Outlook in safe mode and see whether this issue continues. This helps eliminate if the problem is related to any third party add-ins. To do this, please exit Outlook, press Win key + R to open the Run command, type outlook.exe /safe, press Enter.

  • User is getting the below message.

    Outlook is trying to retrieve data from the Microsoft Exchange server outlook.office365.com

    I have unchecked IPV6 from Wireless and Ethernet adaptor,. Is there any other way to troubleshoot the issue
