IE8 and IE9 browser both freeze when cursor passes over Tools button on Menu Bar.

  • When I pass my cursor over the Tools button on the IE browser menu bar the browser freezes.  This happens with IE8 and IE9.  When I pass the cursor over the other Menu Bar buttons, such as File or Edit, the drop down menus appear.  I can make choices from all of the menu bar buttons except the Tools button.  The Tools button is completely non-functional.  Also, when I try using the Microsoft "Fix It" program to automatically reset Inernet Explorer I get a message that I do not have administrative rights on the machine.  It is my machine and I am the only administrator.

  • Hi,

You may try to perform IE with No add-ons mode for a test.

If it has no avail, please make sure you are logging in with administrator, then open Internet Options in Control Panel=>Go to Advanced tab=>Click Reset to reset IE settings.

  • I have the same exact problem. I had IE9, tried to reset settings, but it didn't work so I downgraded to IE8 and that didn't work either.

I also completely uninstalled IE and then reinstalled it, but it's still the same. Even in the mode where no addons are used.

Also it does not work to browse the Internet from more than one Tab. If I try opening another tab it also freezes.

The answer below doesn't work for the problem, but it seems every thread on the net gets locked after suggesting it. It just doesn't work.

    It has worked before though.

I'm on Windows 7 Ultimate x64 with a Swedish languagepack.
