Internet Explorer 9 Printing RRS feed

  • Question

  • I have a couple of machines that now have IE9 with a 7 Pro operating system that will not print web page content.  The only thing that will print is the page number at the top and the url at the bottom.  If I add the site to the trusted sites under security of internet options of tools, then the content of the web site will then print (after closing and restarting IE9).  So, it appears to have to do with something with the security certificate.  I would hate to have my people do this for every site the go to just to print from it.  Unless there is away to get around this I am thinking of just uninstalling IE9.  Does anyone know if there is a solution to this?  Thank You!!

  • Questions to further determine if a protected mode / UAC issue:
     1. What print driver / printer is specified when attempting to print?
     2. Do you see the same symptoms if testing a similar inbox print driver (a print driver that is included with Windows) equal to the OEM print driver?
     3. Do you see the same symptoms if testing with the Generic Text/Only print driver?
     4. Do you see the same symptoms if you launch IE using "Run as administrator" (protected mode off)

You noted that if you add the site in question into the Trusted Sites Zone in IE, then the contents of the web page then prints.  Trusted Sites Zone does not have protected mode checked by default and sites opens in a medium integrity context.  Likely the issue is due to a print driver / spooler issue with the IE integrity context. e.g. low integrity print driver talking to a medium integrity print spooler.

Basically, if it does work with Generic Text/Only print driver but not with a real print driver, and it does work with IE running as administrator (or without UAC enabled), or with site in Trusted Sites, there is nothing else that can be done from IE point of view.

Some additional questions / suggestions to consider to further narrow down the problem.
     1. Do you see this problem only with IE9?
     2. Can you print contents from any site on the Internet?
     3. Do you see the exact symptoms attempting to print from any site on the Internet?
     4. What do you see Print Preview in IE?
     5. Does changing from "Shrink To Fit" to 100% make a difference?
     6. Perhaps specific to IE9 print issue documented in following KB:
2409656 Unable to print or view the print preview of a webpage in Internet Explorer 9
     http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-US;2409656
     7. Perhaps procmon.exe from Sysinternals.com may provide clues as to what is happening (access denied issues).
