Will there be a Skype for Business extenstion for Microsoft Edge Chromium? RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hello,

we're planning to switch everything from IE11 to Edge (Chromium) asap. Because we want also to remove all dependencies from the IE11 mode I'd like to know if there will be - or perhaps there already is - a Skype for Business extenstion for our new browser?

We want to have the user status visable on our SharePoint pages and the click to dail feature.

    Every help is much appreciated!

  • Hi Azure!

I’m afraid that Skype for Business Extension is not ready for the new browser now.

In my research, you can use Skype for Business Extension in Microsoft Edge. In the following link, you can find Skype for Business extension sepecially designed for Microsoft Edge:

    https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/store/collections/edgeextensions/

In addition, you can refer to the following article to know more about effects for Skype for Business if edge moving to chromium:

  • Hi Jimmy,

thank you very much for the provided information. In the first link you provided, leading to the classic Edge extenstions store, I couldn't find any extension for SfB. Already taken offline? As far as I know, if you don't act everybody will be switched from classic Edge browser to the new Edge Chromium browser, once it is realesed. There is a registry setting to prevent this switch from happening.

    https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/deployedge/microsoft-edge-blocker-toolkit

How ever, your second link gave me a good introduction in the scenario about SfB browser interaction. I now know where dig next. I'll have a look into the Skype for Business WebSDK and talk to some developers what they know about.

Do you know a Google Chrome extenstion for SfB? I didn't found real evidence yet, just some hints. Some sound like there is one, some sound like the opposite is the case.

    Best regards

    Henrik

  • Hi Henrik!

    Thanks for your kindness reply!

Yes, in the first link I provided are some Edge extensions store and I did not find any extensions related to Skype for Business.

Then I also found a related case about Skype for Business Chrome extension for your reference, in this case it seems there is Skype extension (not Skype for Business) for Google Chrome.

The following articles show Skype for Business Click to Call Google Chrome Extension:

  • Hey Jimmy,

thanks for you support again. I've checked your links. My summary for now: if you want real SfB features in your browser (presence + click to dail) you need to wait and hope for a Edge Chromium extension or use the IE11 mode instead.

    Best regards

    Henrik
