Exchange 2007 receive connector SMTP client no STARTTLS RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hello,

I'm new to this forum and I apologize if this has been covered before.

I'm trying to relay mail from a 3rd party client using IMAP/SMTP. The client's secure connect options are SSL, TLS, or none. I don't want my username and password readable in plain text so none isn't an option. How do I get Exchange to start the encryption if the client can't issue the STARTTLS command? My understanding is that IMAP does implicit SSL but SMTP is explicit SSL. The IMAP or syncing is working correctly but when I try to send an email, the client app pops up an error and says: "Could not convert socket to TLS".

Thanks in advance for any help.

P.S. We are in the process of migrating away from our SBS 2008/Exchange 2007 server to Server 2016 and Exchange 2016. I don't know if this will give us more options as far as this issue.

    Rusty
