License 14A - Microsoft Volume Licensing Reconciliation Report - and downgrade reporting RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi, I have set up SCCM for a customer.  One of their main requirements is for proper license reporting.  To that aim we have configured AI, and imported the MVLS license file (thanks to boredazfcuk for his very helpful post on this forum that enabled us to do that).

Anyway, the issue is the report we are most interested in is "License 14A - Microsoft Volume Licensing Reconciliation Report" – which should show us how we stack up for used licenses versus purchased ones.  Important as this customer is preparing for true-up.

But the report does not seem to show the downgraded versions correctly – well it doesn’t show them at all.  For example, the customer is licensed for 1350 copies of Windows 7 Ent – but still uses XP.  Of course we expect the copies of Windows XP to show up in report as used licenses – especially as there is a column titled “Diff. after applying Downgrade Right”

Can anyone help – does this report actually work ?

Note the post on http://myitforum.com/cs2/blogs/idany/archive/2008/10/16/improving-microsoft-volume-licensing-reconciliation-report.aspx that seems to indicate this is a known problem with the report

    Thanks

  • Yes I know this is an old post, I’m trying to clean up all un-answered post.

As far as I know there is no way for this report to show downgrade rights. However if you feel this should exist then You can submit suggestion via the Connect site, https://connect.microsoft.com/site16/Feedback. I would post it back here so that others can vote it up.

  • David,

Did you get an answer to this?  Also, can you tell me when you run the 14A report, how do you calculate the actual number of licenses you have deployed to use for your true up?  I am working with a customer as well to figure out how to interpret these reports as they print out.  Do we use the effective license, inventory count or what?  Any help is appreciated.
