Server is not connecting to update service RRS feed

  • Question

  • I have several severs, 2 of which are running Windows Server 2019. 1 of them is working fine, the other cannot receive updates. When I click on CHECK FOR UPDATES I receive this after about 5 minutes of waiting for it to connect:

    ERROR ENCOUNTERED

We couldn't connect to the update service. We'll try again later, or you can check now. If it still doesn't work, make sure you're connected to the Internet.

I have restarted the server, services...same result.

All other servers I have are running 2012, 2012R2 all which are working fine. Any help is appreciated.

  • Hi,

Try to run the following command as administrator to stop and restart update related services.

    net stop wuauserv

    net stop cryptSvc

    net stop bits

    net stop msiserver

    net start wuauserv

    net start cryptSvc

    net start bits

    net start msiserver

If the issue persists, please run build-in troubleshooting tool through Settings\Update&Security\Troubleshoot\Windows Update at first.

Also we could repair corrupted system files with the following command line as administrator:

    DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth /Source:C:\RepairSource\Windows /LimitAccess

    DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-image /Restorehealth

    sfc /scannow

And reset Windows Update components with script:

This script will completely reset the Windows Update client settings.

    Bests,

  • Hello,

Please run Windows Update troubleshooter from Settings app > Update & security > Troubleshoot. Let us know what it reports back.

    Regards.
