  • Hi,

In the server I am using (WS 2008 R2 64bit) there is a file called DataStore.edb in C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution\DataStore.

Thin this is related to windows update log file. It is currently 1G. I think it should be ok to delete it but if someone has deleted it and is ok

  • Hi SunPacific,

    Thanks for your post.

This is the database of the windows updates that have been done. As far as I know, you could stop the Update service, then just delete the contents of the DataStore folder.  When you restart the service and run Windows updates again. The file should then get recreated.

For a complete cleaning (clearing also the whole update history):
    1.net stop wuauserv
2.delete all files inside the C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution\Download directory
    3.delete the DataStore.edb into C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution\DataStore
    4.net start wuauserv

You could follow the thread discussed before for more  details

  • Thank you Mary, it worked for me. Managed to free off some space to keep things going in my server.
