Installing SharePoint 2016 as standalone single server RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hello everybody,

I am trying to install SharePoint 2016 on one single server. Do I need to install SP 2016 on different Server than SQL server or I can install it on the same server as SQL 2012 has been installed?

Thanks and appreciate all kind of advice.

  • You can install it on the same server as SQL.  It just doesn't have the Single Server install model anymore that installs SQL Express during the SharePoint installation.  But you can do a standard install no matter what server SQL is installed on.

  • Hi

    Agree with Paul.

SharePoint Server 2016 doesn't support the standalone install option, so it is no longer available in the setup program.

Use the MinRole during installation and choose one of the available install options. The Single Server Farm option where everything is installed on the same computer is supported for dev/test/demo purposes.

When you use this option, you must install SQL Server yourself and then run the SharePoint Server 2016 farm configuration wizard.
