Downgrade windows OS

    Question

  • I'm using Windows Server 2016 Standard Evaluation version in Virtual Machine, 

    Now I want to purchase Windows server License operating license , RDS license and Windows Server CAL license for Virtual Machine,

    Pls. suggest should I purchase below three to fulfill my requirement ?

    1) WinSvrSTDCore 2019 SNGL OLP 16Lic NL CoreLic

    2) WinRmtDsktpSrvcsCAL 2019 SNGL OLP NL DvcCAL

    3) WinSvrCAL 2019 SNGL OLP NL DvcCAL

  • Contact your local authorized Microsoft reseller.  They will be able to assist you in properly configuring your environment.  This is a technical forum, not a licensing forum, so you will receive more assistance by contacting the proper resource.

    Note that you do not license the virtual machines.  You license the physical host on which the VM is running.

  • Better to direct legal licensing questions to your reseller's trained licensing specialist or ask microsoft directly. Any replies here from anonymous forums users would be opinions at best.

    yes,License is required for all three categories. you need to contact sell vendor or volume licensing service center to confirm how many quantity your need to purchase and how to downgrade them.
    1) WinSvrSTDCore 2019 SNGL OLP 16Lic NL CoreLic
    you need to buy Sufficient quantity license for your cpu core. you can refer below document to get downgrade product key for server 2016 then activate it on your server 2016 std.

    2) WinRmtDsktpSrvcsCAL 2019 SNGL OLP NL DvcCAL
    you need to buy Sufficient quantity 
    license for your device.you can refer below document to downgrade to 2016 rds per device cal.

    3) WinSvrCAL 2019 SNGL OLP NL DvcCAL
    you need to buy Sufficient quantity
    license  for your device. in general ,it can be used to server 2016 std
