Copy Paste doesn't work first time but works on 2nd try RRS feed

  • Question

  • we are having an issue where when we try to copy and paste text, links, etc. the first time it will not paste anything.  But if you copy it a second time it works.  But if you close IE and reopen it and then try to copy anything from IE windows again the same process happens again.  We have this happening on several windows 7 enterprise workstations with IE 9 and one with windows 8 and IE 11.

    any ideas?  i'm fresh out.

  • Hi,

Did you try CTRL+C/CTRL+V to finish the copy/paste function?

Also, you can run IE in No Add-on mode. Click Start -> All Programs -> Accessories -> System Tools -> Internet Explorer (with no add-ons).

If this issue still occurs, please attempt to reset IE settings.

If those methods don’t work, you can reinstall IE to see if this issue disappears.

In addition, you may check whether this issue happens on other places like wordpad.

If also the same issue, try update keyboard and mouse drivers.

If the issue still happen when trying ctrl+c / v, we also can test the issue in clean boot mode. Considering 3rd part applications/service conflicts.

  • Have you tried to do a reset of Windows?  Refresh may work too

Also, try to check the system files.  Run - cmd - sfc /scannow

Other people have reported this and doing a re-install solved it for them...

  • like a full reinstall of windows7?  no its not that mission critical to constitute doing a full reinstall of the OS at this point.  I was hoping it was something simpler.

I tried the scan to no avail.

Try it in safe mode?  Sounds like interference from a constantly running process which might not be running then.   Unfortunately, I don't know what diagnostics would apply to ClipBoard, probably some kind of Windows event tracer.   You would not be able to use ProcMon in safe mode because its driver is not started.

This may help with some background info

  • I'm experiencing this in Win 10 Pro throughout the whole system irrelevant of which application. It's become a real pain in the ...

So far found no solution and a reinstall would cost me several hours with all the dev environments to reconfigure and set up. :(

Select any text text string, CTRL+C then CTRL+V and nothing is pasted or the previous clipboard is pasted. Very frustrating for work flow.

  • Same challenge here. And it's intermittent, I think it has to do with working more quickly than my computer can keep up with. The MS way of telling me I need a faster computer.

  • I am using windows 10 1903 Enterprise N edition. This happens all the time everywhere. Sometimes when I paste, the values copied in clipboard earlier (before copying my intended values) show up. This is very irritating and every f... time I have to punch mouse buttons multiple times to copy and paste a f... thing.

  • I have the same problem. Using Ctrl-C/Ctrl-V seems to never work. The first time I try, it pastes nothing or what I had copied previously. If I try again, it works. I just got a new, very fast computer, so it shouldn't be a matter of speed. It seems like a bug to me.
