Outlook hiding inbox items RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi guys!

I'm trying to delete old items from Inbox of a mailbox user, but the Outlook is showing only recent e-mails.

I created a powershell script to clean this mailbox, however, only some items are available.

I created a Retention Policy, but doesn't worked. Older items than 120 days aren't shown.

Someone know how can I delete the hidden messages?

  • Open the mailbox in MFCMapi and see what you find.  Also, you may have a corrupt message count, which would require a mailbox repair.

  • What do you see if you use Advanced Search on the Inbox?  Does it show all 36k+ items, or just the recent ones?  Also, is this Outlook running in cached mode?  If so, the PowerShell will hit the server, but then the client will need to replicate the changes.

Something else to check - is this Outlook 2013?  How much data is the client configured to retain in the cache?

  • In Advanced Search I saw only items newer of june.

Outlook are running in Online Mode, without cache.

I did a test in Outlook 2010 and 2013, but the result was same.

  • Hi

    Have you tried the OWA?
Are you logged in as the user? Or is it an additional mailbox?

  • Hi Steen.

I had tried using OWA and OWA Light Version, however, doesn't worked.

Also, I tried open this mailbox as additional and as user.

  • Thats strange :-)

    Then I have no ideas.

The only thing I've seen before like this was an 'unread item count' out of sync.
